Invitation to Annual Conference of CDS

Dear Professor,

I am highly honoured to write you this invitation on behalf of our Centre of Denmark Studies. Centre of Denmark Studies (CDS) founded in 2015 is a non-profit research centre based in Beijing International Studies University. The centre collaborates closely with the University of Copenhagen and Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences and other institutes. The purpose of CDS is to enhance mutual understanding between China and Denmark, to do joint research, and to get insightful ideas from both countries. The main research areas cover Denmark Studies in China, China Studies in Denmark, Comparative Studies on both countries’ education, Cross-culture communication Studies, social studies of Denmark, tourism planning and studies of the cooperation between Denmark, the other Nordic Countries and China.

Due to the joint efforts of our key members, especially with the great help and instruction from the head of the Department of Cross-Cultural and Regional Studies, Professor Ingolf Thuesen, we have made satisfactory progress. We have exchanged more and more graduates and undergraduates yearly; we have jointly held annual international conferences on the topics mentioned above; we have had series of lectures and seminars related to Sino-Danish cultural exchanges; our key members have published papers in key journals in China; a monograph named The Insight of Danish Anti-corruption Policies into China will be published in 2017.

We are going to have this year’s annual conference in Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences on October 17 of 2017 with the theme of “Tourism and heritage as communicationsince 2017 is the Sino-Danish Year of Tourism. HC Andersen once said “To travel is to live.” Tourism is a good way to present ourselves and to decode the other. Tourism and heritage are wonderful fields for learning and communication.

Papers and presentations related to any of the following are welcome.

  1. What do Danish tourists expect from China? How can the Chinese national treasures and cultural heritage be interpreted to better suit an international audience?

  2. What do Chinese tourists expect from Denmark? How could Denmark be better understood in China?

  3. How could travelling abroad be an efficient cross-cultural communication? What do we expect foreign tourists would take home?

  4. What are the main tourism policies and cultural backgrounds introduced to foreign tourists? And how?

  5. What are the roles of cultural heritage and tourism in education and identity building?

  6. How could cultural heritage and tourism be part of peoples’ lifelong education and learning?

We think you have much to contribute to the conference and sincerely invite you to give a speech on the conference. There will be participants from University of Copenhagen, Chinese Universities, Institutes and museums both from Denmark and China. Your presence will favour the Centre of Denmark Studies a lot and we look forward to your participation
